All of the footings have now been poured for the Teen Center, Admin building and the education wing (including the Gardenside room). The utilities have been stubbed in for Teen Center and Admin building. Today, they started to spread a 6 inch layer of rock as part of the foundation preparation for the slab that we expect to pour next week.

Concrete poured for footings
November 29, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Today we’ll have 9 trucks of concrete delivered to pour the footings for the buildings. The concrete comes out of the dump truck into the pumper truck, high into the air and then is poured into the holes dug out for the footings that support the building walls. The footings are all steel reinforced.

A of Friday morning, the wall is almost done. The last part towards Wiget and at the back of the parking lot to the south are still being assembled. It looks very good and very different.
Other construction has been halted until we get the sound wall complete. Monday is a holiday, so starting on Tuesday next week, we’ll be in full swing on building construction.

Getting ready for concrete
November 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Our surveyor was out to mark the exact locations of each building. Next they will be digging for the footings and to bring in the utilities. After the utilities are brought in, they will pour the concrete slab.
While the pads are being prepared, the framing company is building walls. The walls for the storage building are completed and they have built some of the classroom wing walls. As soon as the slabs are poured and dry, the walls will be put up very quickly.

The sound wall is being installed
November 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment
The correct wall was delivered this week and installation has begun. About 1/3 of the posts have been installed with the concrete poured. The wall assembly has begun and it looks very nice.
Each strip is 5 feet long and 1 foot high. It weighs 75 pounds and is put in place using a fork lift.
Many thanks go to San Diego Precast Concrete. Despite being evacuated and shutting down their plant due to the fires last week, they were still able to move this job to the top of their priority list and get us the wall pieces this week.

Building Pad preparation
October 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment
The preparation of the building pad is progressing very smoothly. The work crew has been leveling the dirt and then putting a gravel mix (AB mix is the Cal Trans designation) on top of that. With a bulldozer, they are leveling that to +/- 0.1 foot. It is very smooth!
After they complete the building pad prep, they will connect in the utilities.

Sound Wall restart
October 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment
As the sound wall was being installed, we discovered that the color of the wall that the company sent was not the correct color. It was not as attractive, nor was it the color that we proposed and got approved through the plannign process. We called the City of Walnut Creek planning department and all agreed that we would send the wall back and have them manufacture the correct color. They have uninstalle the pieced they already put up.
The manufacturer, San Diego Precast Concrete, has been extremely helpful and responsive. Unfortunately, they are affected by the wildfires and their plant was shut down on Monday. They will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. Let us keep them in our prayers as we are in prayer for those affected by these fires.
